View through Europeana Collections
A bundle of seventeen rings linked together: twelve from tortoiseshell and five from shell. The rings are of unequal diameter and shape.\It is most likely that this is not a separate piece of jewelry but a makeshift necklace of earrings and other decorative rings. The open ends of the tortoiseshell rings allow the whole to be disassembled.\See: Van der Sande, Plate XII for images of earrings.
