The case for spectacles is in the shape of a pair of spectacles with a high, arched bridge, made of two sheets of mother-of-pearl, joined by a narrow, moulded, strip of silver around the sides and base of the case, one surface of the mother-of-pearl painted in red, green and yellow with a design of formalised flowers, arising from a trellised flower pot centred on each lens. The pair of nose spectacles has rims of tortoishell, the nose piece, which is in two parts joined by a hinge, is of silver. The lenses are original, probably ground from glass made in Italy. Although the glass is generally clear, small bubbles and scratches can be seen towards the outer edge. The edge of each lens is bevelled.  Case: mother-of-pearl, painted, with silver. Spectacles: tortoiseshell, silver and glass.
