Bazyli z Zarzmy, Żywot świętego Serapiona z Zarzmy. Ze starogruzińskiego przełożył, wstępem i komentarzami opatrzył David Kolbaia

The Life of St Serapion of Zarzma, which narrates the life and deeds of St Serapion, the founder and first superior of Zarzma Monastery in the ninth century, was most likely composed in the first half of the tenth century by Basil of Zarzma, the saint’s elder nephew. In crafting the text, Basil appears to have drawn on a broad array of written sources, oral traditions, and the personal recollections of Serapion’s contemporaries and associates, thereby producing a hagiographical account that combines literary sophistication with the preservation of local memory. Basil’s narrative constructed not only a credible portrayal of his uncle’s life, but also a broader depiction of the socio-political and cultural landscape of Samtskhe. The text has survived exclusively in a metaphrastic version dating from the eleventh century, preserved in a single manuscript copied in the sixteenth or seventeenth century. This manuscript was discovered and published in 1909 by the Georgian historian and ethnographer Mose Janashvili. A critical edition of the text was subsequently prepared by Korneli Kekelidze. The Life of St Serapion of Zarzma was later translated into Latin by Paul Peeters and published in Analecta Bollandiana.
