Lagash (Tell al‐Hiba)

View through CrossRef
Abstract Lagash was the name of both a city and a territory located in the southeast of Sumer, in southern Iraq. For a long time ancient Lagash was erroneously identified with modern Telloh, which is instead the site of ancient Girsu. It is the gigantic site of Tell al‐Hiba, almost 600 ha in extent, that represents the remains of Lagash.
