L'arc, une « lyre sans corde » ou bien « une lyre à une seule corde » ? À propos d'une énigme poétique grecque

Résumé Aristote cite, au livre III de la Rhétorique (1412 b 34 – 1413 a 21) un fragment poétique qui fait de l’arc une lyre akhordos. On comprend généralement « une lyre sans corde », ce qui paraît absurde. Une autre explication fait de l’arc une « lyre à une seule corde ». C’est cette solution qui paraît préférable : l’expression serait une kenning , une métaphore énigmatique.
