Is Nefertiti in Tut’s Tomb?

View through CrossRef
Abstract A few years ago, high-resolution scans of the walls of Tutankhamun’s tomb were conducted in preparation for the construction of a replica tomb. Dr. Nicholas Reeves, one of the most respected Tutankhamun scholars, thought he saw what could be traces of a doorway beneath the paintings on the north wall. His subsequent analysis of the paintings led him to conclude that the figures of Tutankhamun were originally those of a female (Nefertiti), and that Nefertiti is still buried behind the wall. To determine if there was indeed a tomb behind the wall, three studies were conducted with ground penetrating radar, and the general conclusion (as well as the conclusion of this chapter) is that there is no tomb. However, Reeves is correct when he points out that sometime after the tomb’s discovery but before 1936 someone (Carter?) repainted Tutankhamun’s kilt. The chapter discusses why.
