Rectangular on four bun feet, with applied reeded borders, the top formed of two flaps opening lengthwise to reveal, on one side, a dished pen compartment, and, on the other, three square compartments, one fitted with a removable pounce pot with similar borders, the top pierced with continuous holes and with baluster finial, one cover engraved with an earl's achievement, the other with a crest and earl's coronet, the side of the pounce pot also engraved with the same crest and coronet, the base with scratch weight 45:1.
