Tadeusz Różewicz czyta Brunona Schulza. Materialne ślady lektury

For many years Różewicz’s poem „W świetle lamp filujących” [In the Light of Flickering Lamps] had been considered the only trace of his reception of Bruno Schulz’s fiction. Other references to Schulz, mainly the poet’s statements, suggested that his interest in Schulz was only occasional. New information was acquired from the Ossolineum Press in reference to Różewicz’s private library. Schulz is the author of four books from the collection, and one of them Opowiadania. Wybór esejów i listów [Short Stories. Selected Essays and Letters] (2nd edition in the Biblioteka Narodowa series) bears material traces of the owner’s reading. Apart from marking and underlining, there are also verbal notes on the inner side of the cover and comments (“illustrates from newspapers”[ilustruje z gazet] and “Kafka”). An interpretation of those marginalia is the proper topic of the essay whose main point is to find out possible connections between reading the stories and writing the poem, and well as analyzing Różewicz’s reception of the volume in question.
