Current Density Distribution in the Metal Enclosure of GIS in the Presence of Partial Discharges

View through CrossRef
Reliable operation of GIS is an important guarantee for the safety and stability of the power system. Partial discharge detection is an effective means of detecting GIS faults in the partial discharge. When partial discharge occurs, the partial discharge current will flow into the grounding line through the GIS metal enclosure, and the current in the GIS metal enclosure contains the information of partial discharge. Aiming at the problem that the existing partial discharge detection technology still has missed detection, wrong detection and misclassification, this paper establishes a GIS simulation model with a partial discharge, and simulates the current density distribution of the GIS metal enclosure with the presence of partial discharge in the finite element simulation software COMSOL. The distribution of the current density of the GIS metal enclosure in the x, y, and z directions is obtained. The simulation results show that when there is partial discharge inside the GIS, the current of the GIS metal enclosure has both axial and tangential components, and the distribution is uneven along the circumference of the GIS. The amplitude of the current density in the GIS metal enclosure in the x, y, z directions and the total current density amplitude show a positive correlation with the distance from the location of the partial discharge.
Title: Current Density Distribution in the Metal Enclosure of GIS in the Presence of Partial Discharges
