This research is to investigate the thinking skills in short stories of Form Five students. In the meantime, thinking skill is considered the main element and it is an important element in short stories. Short stories are one of the components of Tamil literature which is regarded as the best tool to enhance the thinking of the students. The purpose of this research is to determine the students' ability on writing and to find out their ability of thinking skills in short stories. This study was conducted in one of the secondary school in Kapar, Selangor. The research was conducted on 10 students and 2 Tamil teachers. The evidence of this research was collected based on interview questions and short stories written by the Form Five students on themes of friendship and disability. At the end of this research, their ability on writing and the thinking skills were revealed in their short stories. The research also proved that the thinking skills of the students are also developed by the writing of shorts stories. Furthermore, students have good thinking skills in writing short stories. Schools are considered as the only place that boosts and develop students' thinking skills. Hence, the teachers must give an importance to the thinking development in their curriculum activities.
