A Literature Review on Bahiparimarjana Chikitsa in Nidranasha
View through CrossRef
Along with Aahar (diet) and Brahmacharya (balanced conduct), Nidra (sleep) is one of the three essential pillars of a healthy life, in accordance with the Trayopasthambha. The quality and quantity of sleep have a profound influence on both emotional and physical well-being, such as happiness, Nourishment, immunity, and fertility. Improper sleep can even prove fatal. In the present era of modernisation, people often encounter lifestyle changes that have significantly impacted sleep patterns, which can lead to Nidranasha (Insomnia), typically triggered by anxiety, stress, irregular work hours, excessive screen time, and a poor daily routine. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this condition can cause Vata Vriddhi (aggravation of Vata Dosha) and Kapha Kashaya (depletion of Kapha Dosha). This disturbs the natural balance required for the maintenance of sleep. Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to managing insomnia through a combination of therapies. Different Ayurvedic text includes Anthaparimarjana, Bahiparimarjana, and Satvavajaya chikitsa to treat insomnia. Bahiparimarjana Chikitsa is crucial for managing various health conditions by cleansing, healing, and alleviating pain through localized and generalized treatment. External therapy such as Abhyanga, Padabhyanga, Uastadana, Lepan, Tarpana, Murdha Tail, and Savahanam. An integrative Ayurvedic approach reduces the root cause of Nidranasha and promotes overall health and well-being.
