A line drawing in sanguine chalk of a baby on its tummy, in a kind of swimming pose, over a cloud. The right arm of the child reaches forward. The child faces to the left and is looking down. You can imagine this study being converted into a painting of a winged cherub floating above a biblical scene. Stamp 'NCAM' in circle at brc. A fragment of the old mount is retained in the artist file which reads: "Study for the Santa Petronilla. Uredale Price bought this of Gavin Hamilton at Rome 1767. In 1867 it came from the collection of D Bayley of Hereford"
