Matthew Brandt, "little puddles"
View through Artsy
Incorporating unexpected materials and methods into his experimental photo-based practice, Matthew Brandt (b. 1982, Los Angeles) upends the idea that a photograph must simply be an image neatly developed onto glossy paper– in his Lakes and Reservoirs series, for example, he develops photos of lakes using lake water; in his Wai’anae series, he buries photographs of the Hawaiian landscape, allowing the island to leave a mark of its presence on the image through natural erosion.
