Screening of Pea Germplasm against Stem Rot DiseaseA
View through CrossRef
Pisum sativum L., an economically significant member of the Fabaceae family, is susceptible to a range of phytopathogens that can compromise its growth and productivity. Among the fungal diseases affecting this species, stem rot, caused by the necrotrophic ascomycete Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, represents a critical concern due to its potential to induce substantial yield losses. 57 garden pea germplasm were screened under field conditions and none of them were found to be immune to the stem rot disease. 4 germplasm namely VL 8, Vivek matar 10, Vivek matar 9 and VL Sabji Matar 13 were found to be resistant and 7 germplasm were found to be moderately resistant against the disease. Whereas 36 germplasm were found to be moderately susceptible, 7 germplasm were found to be susceptible and 3 germplasm namely AP 1, AP 3 and GS-10 were found to be highly susceptible towards the stem rot disease of pea. In net house under pot conditions, among 57 garden pea germplasm, 5 germplasm viz., Early Badger, VL 8, Vivek matar 10, Vivek matar 9 and VL Sabji Matar 13 were found to be resistant to the stem rot disease whereas 14 germplasm were found to be moderately resistant and 38 germplasm were found susceptible towards the stem rot disease in this study.

Description:
Pisum sativum L.
, an economically significant member of the Fabaceae family, is susceptible to a range of phytopathogens that can compromise its growth and productivity.
Among the fungal diseases affecting this species, stem rot, caused by the necrotrophic ascomycete Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.
) de Bary, represents a critical concern due to its potential to induce substantial yield losses.
In net house under pot conditions, among 57 garden pea germplasm, 5 germplasm viz.
, Early Badger, VL 8, Vivek matar 10, Vivek matar 9 and VL Sabji Matar 13 were found to be resistant to the stem rot disease whereas 14 germplasm were found to be moderately resistant and 38 germplasm were found susceptible towards the stem rot disease in this study.
