Neuroprotective effect of Corchorus trilocularis (L.) leaves against 3-nitropropionic acid induced Huntington disease
View through CrossRef
The impact of oxidative stress on mental performance
may be mitigated by Corchorus trilocularis. The
purpose of this research was to show that a
combination of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and
Corchorus trilocularis leaves ethanolic extract
protected rat brain tissue from neurotoxicity by 3-
nitropropionicacid (3 NP) induction. Three animals
were given 3-NP (30 mg/kg, i.p) and then given 100,
200 and 400 mg/kg of petroleum ether, ethyl acetate of
Corchorus trilocularis ethanolic extract
intraperitoneally (p.o.) daily for 14 days. Significant
changes were found in 3 NP-induced animal’s
biochemical (raised lipid peroxidation, superoxide
dismutase, reduced catalase and reduced glutathione)
and neurochemical (improved acetyl cholinesterase
enzyme) profiles, as well as their behaviour
(hypolocomotion, muscle in coordination and memory
deficit) by the end of 14th day.
Corchorus trilocularis extracts in petroleum ether,
ethyl acetate and ethanol (400 mg/kg) avoided
behavioral, biochemical and neurochemical changes in
comparison to rats given 3 NP. Both extracts, taken
individually, lacked considerable action at lower doses
(100 and 200 mg/kg). The findings of work favor the
exercise of Corchorus trilocularis treatment as
preventative medicine for the therapy of Huntington's
disease, as it prevents oxidative stress and protects
brain.
