Using John Stuart Mill's thinking—who is considered to be one of the quintessential representatives of liberalism—Florian Maiwald attempts to demonstrate that the contradiction that is often attributed to the two aforementioned political world views should be subjected to justified scrutiny. Ultimately, however, this study is based on far more profound questions: What does freedom mean? And what conditions must be met for a person to be truly free?
