SEA‐BUCKTHORN LIPIDS
View through CrossRef
ABSTRACTIn contrast to other berry fruits in which lipids occur only in seeds, lipids in sea‐buckthorn berries were distributed in the rind, flesh, and seeds. Over 70% lipids occurred in the free form while the rest occurred in the bound form. There were substantial differences in the amount of lipids in the particular morphological parts of the fruit. The flesh contained the highest amount of lipids and the seeds had the lowest. Over 97% of flesh lipids, 92% of seed lipids, and 91% of rind lipids were in the neutral form, with the remainder being polar lipids. The fatty acid compositions of flesh and rind lipids were predominated by the C16:0, C16:1, and C18:2 fatty acids. Predominant fatty acids in the seed lipids were C18:1 and C18:2.
