Insect Fauna of Mountainous Wetland Protected Areas: Wol-yeong Wetland (Jeongeup-si) and Jang-do Wetland (Sinan-gun)
View through CrossRef
This study compared the insect fauna between the inland mountainous wetland (Wol-yeong Wetland, Jeongeup-si) and the island mountainous wetland (Jang-do Wetland, Sinan-gun). A total of 492 species belonging to 131 families in 17 orders were recorded from Wol-yeong Wetland, while 356 species from 96 families in 11 orders were recorded from Jang-do Wetland. Wol-yeong Wetland exhibited higher diversity across all taxonomic levels, with notable differences in Coleopteran families such as Curculionidae and Chrysomelidae. Community analysis showed that Wol-yeong Wetland had lower dominance but higher diversity, evenness, and richness indices, indicating a more stable and complex community structure. In contrast, Jang-do Wetland showed simplified community patterns. Nevertheless, coastal or halophilic species such as Aphthona strigosa, Cantao ocellatus and Ochlerotatus togoi were found exclusively in Jang-do Wetland, reflecting its maritime environments. These findings highlight distinct biogeographical patterns between inland and island mountainous wetlands and provide essential baseline data for ecological assessment, conservation, and management of mountainous wetland ecosystems.
