FIXED PHRASE SCHEMES AS THE «RESULTS» OF GRAMMATICALIZATION PROCESS

View through CrossRef
The article analyzes the fixed phrase schemes in the cognitive aspect as the «results» of grammaticalization process. It has been established that the phraseologization phenomenon is directly associated with grammaticalization. The fixed phrase schemes grammaticalization on the level of signifier is the secondary use of a free syntactic structure; and on the level of signified it is the utmost generalization of the productive base semantics to the level of a categorical seme: «statement», «negation», «estimation», etc. The result of the fixed phrase schemes grammaticalization is the phraseological meaning, which is stable, invariable, unmotivated by the grammatical meaning of the syntactic construction, by which it is generally represented, and idiomatic. The phraseological meaning is grammatical: it does not nominate the speech subject but points out the means of its interpretation. The phraseological meaning serves as a typical proposition component, functioning as a predicate. The fixed phrase scheme in the entirety of plain of expression and plain of content is the grammatical cliché; we can insert diverse content here and get intrinsic predetermined result; the new grammatical indicator, the means of typical propositions representation; the secondary conceptualization and categorization sign; the grammaticalization result. A set of typical propositions realized by the fixed phrase schemes and their frequency have been identified. It was also stated that the fixed phrase schemes usually implement several typical propositions - the main and the optional ones, which allow them to express «strong» emotional-volitional communicative reactions. They do not only name typical situation but also express emotional attitude, replacing two syntactic constructions at once.
