عند دراسة تاريخ الدول الاسيوية والافريقية، تلعب فترة الاحتلال دوراً مهماً في فهم تاريخ، ديانات، ثقافات وتقاليد تلك الدول. أن رواية ( الاشياء تتداعى) للكاتب تشينو أتشيبي، والتي كتبت باللغه الانكليزية ونشرت عام 1957، والتي تظهر لنا عادات، ثقافات وديانات مجتمع الإغبو (احدى العرقيات المكونه لدولة نيجيريا). تجسد الروايا فترة الاستعمار وتاثيرها على مجتمع الإغبو. وتعد توثيق لسيطرة الاستعمار على القيم والثقافات الافريقية. يعامل هذا البحث الروايه على انها روايه لدراسات ما بعد الاستعمار، من خلال التركيزعلى الصدامات بين الاستعماروسكان الارض المحتلة. انها اصدامات بين ثقافتين مختلفتين، الامبراطورية الاوربية والسكان المحليون لأفريقيا. والتي ادت الى انهيار ثقافات مجتمع الإغبو.
