This brief memoir recalls JG’s first meeting with Norse in San Francisco, and in the company of William Burroughs, through to an ongoing friendship. It honours Norse’s role in Gay advocacy while also acknowledging his frequent querulousness. Plaudits go to Norse’s intellectual edge, his genuine resources of poetic-creative mind. There is a deserved hurrah to Todd Swindell for organizing Norse’s papers and so helping with recognition of the Norse legacy.
