La consultation des archives a permis d’identifier 5 223 Juifs Polonais, nés dans la localité d’Oswiecim, déportés, et qui, pour la plupart, furent assassinés à Auschwitz. Nombreux sont ces natifs d’Oswiecim qui s’installèrent dans d’autres villes en Pologne ou dans un autre pays européen (Allemagne, Tchécoslovaquie, France, Autriche, Hongrie, Belgique et Pays-Bas). Le parcours de plusieurs des déportés de France a pu être reconstitué. Ces déportés, dont la spécificité est d’être nés à Oswiecim et envoyés à Auschwitz-Birkenau, forment une communauté partageant un même destin tragique.
