Cyberbullying and Self-Esteem: Mediating Role of Emotional Regulation in Adolescents

This study examined the relationship between cyberbullying and self-esteem among adolescents and investigated the mediating role of emotional regulation. The survey design was a cross-sectional survey, which was quantitative. The sample included 500 Grade 9 and Grade 10 students who were chosen using convenient sampling. Cyberbullying, emotional regulation and self-esteem were measured using standardized self-report questionnaires. The analysis of the data was carried out using SPSS based on descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, and mediation analysis. The results indicated that there were negative correlations between emotional regulation and self-esteem and emotional regulation and self-esteem, and positive correlations between emotional regulation and self-esteem. The emotional regulation was highly predicted by cyberbullying. The mediation analysis revealed that emotional regulation played a significant role in mediation between cyberbullying and self-esteem. These findings revealed that the greater the cyberbullying, the less the self-esteem with less emotional control. The research found out that emotional regulation is a significant phenomenon in the explanation of the relationship between cyberbullying and self esteem in adolescents.
