Governare la peste? Un progetto di Luigi Ferdinando Marsili

At the height of his military career at the service of Leopold I of Hapsburg, Marsili sends to Vienna the project here presented. It contains a series of precise measures to be effectively and pre-emptively implemented to defend the borders of the Danubian and Balcanic territories of the empire from the spreading of the plague, “utmost evil”, which in his opinion is endemic in the Ottoman empire. Marsili’s notion of “good order”, in which political-military-economic analyses are directly connected to scientific considerations, still sounds as a powerful challenge for the present times.
