Walten is an enigmatic motif that insists in Jacques Derrida’s last seminar, where it seems to lead towards a re-elaboration of the concept of sovereignty. In The Beast and the Sovereign, Derrida explores the powerful overtones of the Walten in Heidegger’s work, showing that Walten can no longer be reduced to an onto- theologico-political sovereignty already in deconstruction. This article tries to understand the excessive “force” of Walten that Derrida defines as being sovereign beyond sovereignty.
