Les graffiti navals de l’Alcazar à Marseille : des pentécontores phocéennes ?

Among the many graffiti engraved on a block of limestone from the excavation of the Alcazar in Marseilles, we can clearly distinguish two nautical graffiti. One is a long warship, the other gives the details of the front part of a similar ship. The front of both ships faces right. The characteristics of these two graffiti correspond to those of long warships of the second half of the sixth century B.C. According to their strong forecastle, the question is wether or not we are in the presence of the famous Phocaean penteconters, renowned for their power.
