Towards the antifascist geographical imagination

View through CrossRef
'To think antifascistically is necessarily to think geographically; to think geographically ought to be to think antifascistically.’ This aphorism, setting the compass for the book, is inspected to show the road ahead. The root argument is that antifascist thought demands a geographical imagination whose alertness to space, place, nature, environment, location and landscape is non-negotiable. The corollary is that geography, thought-and-practised ‘properly', should always be antifascistic. The proposal is made that these claims can be secured by addressing the critical-theoretic scholarship of Theodor W. Adorno, precisely because the horrors of fascism, and the will to offer a thoroughgoing antifascist response, cry from every pore of his copious oeuvre. It is explained that the ‘broadbrush’ task for the book - conveyed by the aphorism - necessarily builds from the more ‘needlelike’ task of close-reading across Adorno's many writings on philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, literary studies, musicology, political commentary, and more. A map of the book is provided alongside guidance about presentational matters.
