Evaluation of Maytenus aquifolia Mart. and Maytenus ilicifolia Mart. chemotypes for tannins, total phenols and triterpenes

View through CrossRef
Maytenus aquifolia and Maytenus ilicifolia are medicinal species with validated antiulcerogenic effects, which have configured demand in Brazil as source of active principle in phytotherapic products. In the present work, different accessions of these two species were evaluated for triterpene, total phenolic and tannin contents and it was verified that there is no direct correlation among yields of those chemical markers and the morphological characteristics observed.
