Krishna and Radha, Seated on a Terrace at Night
View through Harvard Museums
Seated on a white, open-air terrace are the figures of Krishna and Radha. They are seated on a white rug that resembles a large flower with individual petals and against a large cylindrical green cushion decorated with pink flowers. In front of them are small silver bowls containing food and silver flasks. Krishna sits with his legs underneath him. He wears a white shirt with white trousers that are decorated with gold flowers and a translucent white skirt with gold trim. Draped over his right shoulder is a white scarf with gold trim and ends. He has his left arm over Radha’s right shoulder, his hand can be seen holding her back. His right hand reaches up to caress her face. He is adorned with bracelets, armlets, necklaces, and a pearl earring. His turban is decorated with an ornament and strands of pearls and emeralds. Radha wears a chaniya choli, consisting of a gold crop top and a gold skirt with green flowers. A translucent scarf with gold dots and trim partially covers her head and wraps around the front of her body. Her finger tips are dyed red with henna. Her right hand holds onto Krishna’s left wrist. She is adorned with necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, ear ornaments, a nose ring, and a head ornament. The sky is a pale blue. At the top, it is dotted with small silver stars and a large silver moon with rays. Kishangarh Style.
