Rosalie, a Mā’ohi woman, and her husband struggle to provide for their children. Motivated by glossy catalogues, Rosalie dreams of possessing everything that makes a ‘real home’, and is persuaded to give up a baby to a childless French couple in exchange for payment. They believe that since Mā’ohi cultural practices include entrusting young children to other family members this will be an attractive proposition. Corrupted by consumerism and colonialism, Rosalie accepts their offer and envisages similar ’deals’ in the future.
