From a whisper to a scream: music in the films of Michael Haneke
View through CrossRef
Abstract
Michael Haneke’s films foreground music in provocative ways. Played in parts and frequently interrupted by silence or noise, music in Haneke is closely linked to his central thematic obsessions with alienation, glaciation and fragmentation. This paper analyzes musical fragmentation in Haneke and focuses on the modes of interruption and interference that characterize its emphatic and alienating effects.
