AbstractMarcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus (203/4–222CE), known as Elagabalus, became emperor when he was barely fourteen years old and ruled from 218 to 222. His reign is noted for his eccentric behavior and his attempts, as a hereditary priest, to promote the worship of the god Elagabalus from Emesa in Syria.
