Seated Rajput with a Hookah and Shield

Seated facing right with his legs folded under him is a Rajput man of either royal or noble status. He wears a blue turban decorated with a yellow diamond pattern, which probably represents batik (wax-resist technique), and a long robe (jama). He is adorned with a necklace, rings, bracelets, and an earring. He has a full beard with a prominent mustache. Lying across his lap is a sword (talwar) in a blue scabbard. He holds a hookah pipe up to his lips with his right hand, while his left rests over a large black shield (dhal) which is propped on his left knee. Rajput Style, Kota School.
