Ceramic plaques

View through Europeana Collections
Plaques above the entrances to the staircases at Osiedle A in Tychy, which was built in 1951-1956. The plaques were made of ceramics or artificial stone by a team of students working under the supervision of professor Tadeusz Teodorowicz Todorowski - the designer of the estate A. The aim was to easily distinguish, especially by small children, entrances to the same staircases on the estate. The inspiration was ceramic images of saints above the doors of houses in ancient Rome, or the still existing ceramic plaques in Malta. Tyskie majolica presents mainly animals, while plant motifs appear only on two of them.
