Religious plaques in Malta

View through Europeana Collections
Religious plaques in Malta appear on many private homes alongside numbers that are often personified. Religious plaques are commonly placed outside a home or in interior yards. The most frequently visible are plaques with images of patrons, saints, the Holy Family, and Our Lady with Jesus. Plaques, inspired by the workshop of the Italian family della Robbia from the Renaissance period, are produced in Malta, among others by artisans in Ta 'Qali Crafts Village, near Mdina.
