Minimally Invasive Tricuspid Valve Surgery
View through CrossRef
This chapter covers the techniques, indications, and outcomes of minimally invasive tricuspid valve surgery. Although tricuspid valve diseases often follow a benign course, they can lead to serious complications if neglected. Minimally invasive surgery allows for less traumatic procedures, quicker recovery, and improved cosmetic outcomes.During preoperative preparation, patients undergo comprehensive evaluations, including transesophageal echocardiography for intraoperative guidance. The surgery typically involves a right mini-thoracotomy or video-assisted techniques. Tricuspid valve repair or replacement can be performed on a beating heart or under fibrillation without cross-clamping. Femoral artery and venous cannulation are commonly used.Postoperative care focuses on monitoring for arrhythmias, which are common after tricuspid valve surgery. Compared to conventional sternotomy, minimally invasive tricuspid valve surgery offers lower morbidity and mortality rates. However, risks such as longer operative times and potential cerebrovascular complications should be considered. Despite these challenges, this approach has shown favorable outcomes and continues to gain popularity.
