Fei Xiaotong (Hsiao‐tung Fei) (1910–2005)

Fei Xiaotong (1910–2005) was a famous Chinese sociologist and anthropologist. He studied under Bronislaw Malinowski in London, returning afterwards to China to carry out research. During the Cultural Revolution, sociology as an academic discipline was abolished and he was not allowed to teach or publish. Later, when sociology was re‐established, Fei was active in setting up the Institute of Sociology at Peking University and the Chinese Association of Sociology. Because of this, Fei Xiaotong is regarded as the founder of sociology in China.
