A Comparative Accelerated Stability Study of Amurchchhita and Murchchhita Tila Taila Prepared from Self-Prepared and Market Sample
View through CrossRef
Introduction: Stability studies assess the shelf life of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Although classical Ayurvedic texts mention shelf life for many formulations, the shelf life of Murchchhita Tila Taila is not specified. Taila Murchchhana is a special pharmaceutical procedure before subjecting the drugs to Snehapaka and is used to remove Amadosha and Gandhadosha, imparting colour and increasing the potency of the drug. Till date, stability study of Murchchhita Tila Taila has not carried out. So, the present study aimed to evaluate the shelf life of Amurchchhita and Murchchhita Tila Taila from self-prepared and Market Taila samples through accelerated stability study as per ICH guideline Q1A. Materials and Methods: Sample of self-prepared Tila Taila was prepared as per the reference in Charak Samhita, and Tila Taila Murchchhana was done as per the reference in Bhaishajya Ratnavali. To evaluate the shelf life of both the samples of Amurchchhita and Murchchhita Tila Taila, an accelerated stability study was conducted. Results and discussion: There were no substantial changes observed in organoleptic parameters. But, physico-chemical parameters like iodine value, acid value and peroxide value show changes across 6 months at accelerated conditions. The microbial load was found within the permissible limits. Conclusion: Based on extrapolated accelerated stability data, the shelf life of Amurchchhita Tila Taila is 3 years 8 months for the self-prepared sample and 3 years 4 months for the market sample, while Murchchhita Tila Taila shows a shelf life of 6 years for the self-prepared sample and 4 years 8 months for the market sample.
