Stock, Dorothea (Vorlage): Porträt Friedrich Schiller

View through Europeana Collections
Breast image to the semi-right, still with wig. Presentation of the poet Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) in the oval. The painter Dorothea Stock (1758-1832) has been able to bring about acquaintance with the images of the Körner family sent to Mannheim to the already known poet of the “robbers,” who soon accepted an invitation to Schiller. From 1785 to 1787 Schiller lived in Leipzig and as a guest of the Körner family, during which time the portrait was probably created, because the unmarried painter lived in the household with her sister Minna and her husband Christian Gottfried Körner and the children Emma and Theodor Körner. Old stock of the Märkisches Museum. Designated li. The oval "Doris [sic!] Stock del.", re. “Werner u. .t,” mi. u. "F. Schiller."
