Gaelic Revitalisation in Thomson’s Poetry and Short Stories

View through CrossRef
The chapter provides a detailed survey of Gaelic revitalisation and attitudes to the language as reflected in Thomson’s creative work. It comments chronologically on his eight poetry collections, from An Dealbh Briste (1951) to Sùil air Fàire (2007), in some cases providing the first critical examination of the poems in question. It also draws attention to the so-far understudied corpus of Thomson’s Gaelic short stories, especially to ‘Foghar, 1976’ (1956) and ‘Tea Feasgair’ (1961), as both offer a new perspective on Thomson’s vision of the Gaelic revival.
