Kneeling man offering wine, attributed to Reẓā `Abbāsī (d. 1635)

Kneeling man offering wine, possibly by Reza `Abbasi (d. 1635) A young man holds out a small footed glass of red wine, to an unseen companion. The wine vessels and fruit suggest that a garden party is in progress, with willow and poplar trees painted in gold. The man’s dark red coat has a lavish gold design of songbirds. Reza’s signature floats just above the wine cup, offering the artwork as “work of the most humble Reza `Abbasi”. Album folio, ink, colours and gold on grey paper, mounted on card, painting of a kneeling youth in dark red coat with gold bird details, green sash and fur-brimmed yellow hat, holding out a footed glass of red wine, with ceramic and metal vessels and fruit on the lower left, inscribed "work of the humble Reẓā `Abbāsī " (raqam-e kamīneh Reẓā `Abbāsī, left), within ruled borders on dark brown paper frame with gold streaks, mounted on pink card with gold-painted foliate trellis, blank grey card verso, Isfahan, Iran, undated, c. 1630-1635.
