Vishnu

View through Europeana Collections
This is an example of the Chola dynasty's best bronze sculpture, created mainly between the 10th and 13th centuries. Visnu displays two of his usual attributes, the disc and the conch shell, while making the gesture of fearlessness (abhaya). While some sculptures have holes in the base for inserting poles to carry them up high during processions, this one does not. It is therefore assumed that it would have remained inside the temple.
