The Global Flourishing Goals

View through CrossRef
Abstract This chapter explores the concept of the Global Flourishing Goals (GFGs) as a framework for enhancing human well-being and Ecosystem-wide Flourishing. Building on the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals, the GFGs aim to define and promote whole-human well-being for everyone by 2050. The chapter outlines five domains of human flourishing: life satisfaction, holistic health, fulfilling relationships, meaning and purpose, and contributing to the flourishing of all life forms. The chapter highlights practical examples from presidential campaigns and YOUnify, a global nonprofit organization, to demonstrate the effectiveness of a clear goal combined with the autonomy to determine strategies, thereby ensuring a customized approach for every community, facilitated through bottom-up/top-down feedback loops. This model emphasizes clear roles, responsibilities, and communication channels, allowing for scalable and sustainable community engagement. The chapter argues that modern society’s extractive structures hinder natural human flourishing and proposes the GFGs as a tool to reorient individuals and groups toward their intrinsic nature. It also discusses the role of leadership in fostering flourishing across different contexts and the need for a dynamic, integrated approach to policymaking and community engagement. The chapter concludes with an invitation to leaders and policymakers to adopt the GFGs framework to create a more flourishing future for all.
