Factors Influencing Flourishing in Autoimmune Patients: A Systematic Review

This scoping literature review aimed to identify factors that influence flourishing and to synthesize gaps in previous studies that flourishing is not only influenced by the internal factor but how the social conditions individuals live in can also affect flourishing. Autoimmune diseases are incurable and associated with mental health conditions that can exacerbate the intensity of recurrence, so it is necessary to take protective measures, namely flourishing as a form of behavioral management of chronic diseases. The prevalence of autoimmune patients who are declared flourishing is relatively small, but flourishing is actually a psychological concept that is needed by everyone because it is related to good mental and physical health conditions. This study went through 5 stages, starting from the identification of questions using the PCC framework; identification of relevant studies determined by considering the inclusion criteria of flourishing, happiness, and well-being in autoimmune patients over 18 years of age using the theoretical framework of positive psychology and published starting January 2018; selection of suitable studies was carried out with the help of AI and 3 reviewers; then data extraction, to data synthesis.We found 4,494 relevant articles on the keyword search through 7 databases. After going through the selection stage of the inclusion-exclusion criteria, 26 final articles were left which were then synthesized based on a narrative textual approach that categorizes studies based on PCC (population, concept, context). Based on data mining, it was found that psychological vulnerability characteristics, physical vulnerability characteristics of autoimmune patients, internal factors, and external factors affect the flourishing of autoimmune patients. In addition, this research can be the basis for examining the gap between theory and facts in the field related to the flourishing of autoimmune patients.
