Beliefs and vertical contracting : theory and experiment

Croyances et relations verticales : analyse théorique et expérimentale Une entreprise en amont fournit souvent des intrants à plusieurs entreprises en aval. Par exemple, un fabricant de café livre du café à plusieurs cafés-restaurants ; de même, une chaîne de télévision fournit des programmes à plusieurs distributeurs et un fabricant d'appareils médicaux vend ses appareils à plusieurs hôpitaux. Lorsque qu'une entreprise en amont conclut un contrat avec une entreprise en aval, elle fixe la structure des coûts de cette dernière. En raison de la concurrence en aval qui suit l'étape de contractualisation, la compétitivité d'une entreprise en aval dépend de son contrat mais également des contrats de ses concurrents. La connaissance ou les anticipations de l'entreprise en aval sur les contrats de ses concurrents sont déterminantes dans sa décision de contractualisation avec l'entreprise en amont.Cette thèse de doctorat propose une analyse de trois situations où les anticipations des entreprises en aval sur les contrats de leurs concurrents sont critiques. Un premier chapitre (Chapitre 2) examine théoriquement et expérimentalement l'impact d'un choc sur les revenus obtenus par des détaillants averses au risque sur le contrat vertical final, sans préciser les anticipations de ces détaillants. Un deuxième chapitre (Chapitre 3) explore l'incitation à déléguer d'une entreprise verticalement intégrée fournissant un concurrent en aval sur un marché biface dans l'hypothèse où les deux entreprises ont des anticipations dites passives (i.e. que leurs anticipations restent inchangées quelque soit le contrat reçu). Un dernier chapitre (Chapitre 4) analyse le choix de la séquence de contractualisation par l'entreprise en amont en fonction du degré d'optimisme des entreprises en aval. Ce chapitre utilise une nouvelle forme d’anticipations appelées croyances néo-additives.
