The '' 6.5 '' is Britain's most informal T.V. show in which the audience are as important as the artists . T.V. cameras track through the milling dancers pointedly catching them unawares . Compere Jim Dale ( teenage idol ) introduces performers from all positions around the studio . The audience clusters as near to the singer as humanly possible - as one cameraman said ; '' Organised chaos - but we screen a first rate show '' . Producer Russell Turner ( husband to Barbara Lyon of the famous Ben Lyon family ) decided that the teen-age fans of the skifflers and rock ' n rollers had had their share of attendance and invited the '' Debs .
Picture shows:-A study in fan worship ..... as she dances one looks adoringly at Calypso singer Philippe Fornando , the other is concentrating deeply on the dance and the camera creeps candidly nearer .
