Mask of painted wood. The mask has hair and mustaches of horsehair and back piece made of fur attached with nails. A ring of ground pieces of glass is attached to the forehead. “Mask of wood, tapeng (sic!). Been by the barong’s attendants, who lead him in. Performed with white suspended eyes, open mouth and impending tongue. In the middle of his forehead a ring of ground glass beads. Mustaches and hair made of horsehair. The face is painted blue green with red teeth, red mouth, tongue and eye edges. The teeth and eyes in silver color. Acquired in Andong Sili, Pagilaran Estate.” The General Catalogue The mask is a dance mask that is part of the prop of a trancedans- set called kuda kepang (Indonesian, kuda: horse, kepang: braided bamboo). In addition to the total of 14 masks, there are also 7 braided bamboo horses, 2 costumes, 2 swords and 3 musical instruments.
