In the late 1910s and early 1920s, artists of the Russian avant-garde adopted the idea that they should not only focus on creating autonomous artworks but also adapt their artistic skills to the drawing of everyday objects. This led to the concept of productive art, which aimed to involve art in industrial production. Among the early attempts by artists to expand the morphological vocabulary of their experiments into various fields were works in the domains of monumental and decorative art, fashion and textile design, book design and more. Nadezhda Udaltsova composed a Suprematist design featuring geometric shapes and repeated the motif in the development of the drawing, creating a unique fabric pattern.
