3500 illegal Jewish immigrants

When the steamer Lochita, her decks crowded with 3500 illegal Jewish immigrants who had renamed the ship Knesset Israel (Jewish Assembly) arrived in Haifa Harbour the Jews resisted transfer to troop ships and in a fight that ensued several British soldiers were injured. Tins of food were used as missiles and tear gas grenades were thrown aboard the ship. Photo shows The Lochita when it arrived in Haifa. 6 October 1947
