WHO RAISED MIKHAIL FEDOROVICH TO THE KINGDOM IN 1613?

View through CrossRef
The article is devoted to clarifying the question of which representatives of socio-political forces brought Mikhail Romanov to power. The author analyzes the royal grants in the first weeks of Mikhail Fedorovich’s reign, and concludes that by the time of the Zemsky sobor in 1613, the once strong and influential group of F.N. Romanov was actually defeated and beheaded. The candidacy of Michail Romanov, a man who did not possess the qualities of a statesman, was supported by young representatives of groups opposed to both the leadership of the United Militia and the former Semiboyarschina. The agitation skillfully organized by A. Palitsyn and his assistants helped the adherents of Michail Romanov first to get the support of the Cossack circle, then with the help of Cossacks and Muscovites to achieve the election of their candidate for the kingdom. An extremely important role in the election of the new tsar was played by the free Cossack army, formed in Russia by showing the children of boyars, serving people on the device and combat slaves. That is why the election of Mikhail Romanov very much resembled the election of «Cossack princes» by free Cossacks. The new tsar from the Romanov dynasty was enthroned by the people.
